hello all...

glad to have my lovely white Bimmer...I've been an amateur mechanic for a long time now. I have always done at least minimal servicing on my vehicles such as changing the oil, air filter, annual radiator maintenance, etc. even installed an in-dash stereo into my old Datsun, back in the '80s...and I'm a whiz at changing a flat! of course each vehicle comes with their own anatomy so I'm here to get some tips and insight from those who know what keeps the 325 purring. I am quite confused by the variances of the 3-series models...how can I find out precisely what the specs are for my variety?

i suppose what i am asking for is the info i would need to address my particular needs in a shop manual and for purchasing parts online. it's the jargon i don't really understand... a 3-series is also an E30 and why the two references? how do i find out if my model is an early or late year model... for example my Datsun 310GX was a 10/80 (Oct 1980) but was considered a 1981...and so on.
what's the best shop manual...and where to locate a used one?
