2003 530i brake light bulbs

2003 530i query on rear brake light bulbs.

I have bmw factory fitted crystal clear,(white), back light units. Required to change a blown brake light bulb and it is in a unit 0f 5-6 blue bulbs soldered into a bulb holder.

Can a separate bulb be replaced by separating from the bulb holder and resoldering a new bulb to the base unit, or do you have to buy a full rear bulb unit every time a bulb blows? the apparent difference in cost is £2 approx. for a new bulb or £100 approx. for a new set of bulbs.

Has anybody else had any experience with this, and your help would be greatly appreciated
