1995 740i Starting problem - BMW Forum

I just purchased a 1995 740i for my wife. It only has 66000. miles on it. A new battery way put in in May of 2008. It started to not start when you turned the key, you would have to take the key out an try again and it would then start. It did this for two days and now it will not start at all. does anyone know what this might be?

Ok, You say it wont start, is it turning over? or dead ? do you get the lights on in the dash?

1, loose wiring connection behind the ignition switch.

2, The switch itself has worn out.

Ok I get all the lights and raido. It does not turn over. Seats still move but have forgotten the drivers memory settings. The pass side review mirror was in the down poshion as if I was backing up. Talked to my brother who has a 1997 740il, he thinks it might be the ignition switch.
what do you think

Ignition switch, thats what I would say.

The only one thats around is BENTLEYS and are not cheap, here is one that a member from www.the7seriesregister.co.uk has compiled for us, the forum is dedicated to the 7 series only, what ever goes wrong with you car theres a member who knows, you an register if you want , its free, but you do need a proper e:mail adresss and not g:mail etc.
