Here comes the big payoff!!! Sorry I don't have pictures of the ringing and wristpin install process, or the piston install, but I wasn't in charge of the camera this time.
Here's how it went: I had to install the rings by hand after alot of swearing when the ring install tool turned out not to be working. We also had a stupid non functional ring compressor tool, so I ended up borrowing one from Joe's dad. It was made some time in the BC era, back when man first discovered steel. It also worked beautifully and thankfully is still in good condition for it's stint at the Smithsonian Pre-History exhibit.
Here's the results after praying to a demon god and summoning a photographer, who just so happened to be Joe's Dad, who also brought the ring compressor:
Tada!!!! Good eh?
Guinness is the official beer of this build. Bottle dates back to original thread.
Here it is from the bottom. Torque specs for the rod bolts are as follows: 20nm, torque to 50 degree torque angle, same as the mains. Bolts must be oiled and brand new for install, as they are torque to yield.
Head gasket goes on and we torque down the head bolts. They are also brand new as they are torque to yield. Torque to 30nm in sequence per the Bentley manual, then again to 90 degrees, then 90 degrees more.
Head is installed. Now we hook up the timing chain to the exhaust cam.
Unfortunately the chain had a snag that needed some fixing so we had to remove the timing cover, and turn the crank about 5 degrees to slip the kink off of the teeth on the crank. We then turned the crank back. At this point I thanked god that I didn't torque down the big bolt on the crank, and only had it on somewhat hand tight.
Kink fixed!!!
The cam timing was already set to TDC I just wanted to show what the tool looks like. I guess I'm gay like that.
Random porn shot.

Tomorrow most likely. I'll have one more update soon where I set the cam timing /install the VANOS unit permanently and put the oil pan on. That's all that's left on the motor build. Then the clutch and trans go on and it gets dropped into the car.
