I am preparing to install a changeover diff assembly which has a WaveTrac LSD centre spool. I have a question about extending the cooling fins on my diff cover plate (2000, E38 740iL). I assume the factory diff cover is aluminium, and I was planning to have some one weld an extension onto several of the fins which would extend down to a single flat piece that ran across the width of the diff cover but in a manner which didn't interfere with any of the cover bolts or suspension pieces. My questions are;
Is this worth the time an effort
Is this likely to end in tears and just leave it alone
Is powder coating the cover whilst its off a good idea, or will it interfere with the heat dissipation of the cover?
