2001 M5 oil change

Hi guys...I'm changing the oil myself for the first time on this car. Question, the oil filter seems to be attached to the top of the cap? I tried to put a socket down to loosen with no luck. Does BMW have a special tool for this or what?? Please advise...Also to tighten the cap, how tight is 25nm...aprox.

Thanking you in advance

If that is the same as the m60/m62 motor which is should be you need a 36mm socket to loosen the oil filter cap, and then when you pull that off the oil filter will be attached to that cap in which point just give it a lil tug and it'll come right off.

EDIT: if you dont use a 36mm socket or the special tool for removal, its VERY difficult, i tried doing it with large vice grips before and i almost broke the housing. If you dont have the right socket, go invest in it, its a good socket to have if you do your own work, you need it for wheel bearing replacement as well.
