Question What engine do I have?

I have a 97 m3 (I still cant figure out the color combination) that appears to be black with a blue flake, and as best as I can describe "camel, or peanut butter colored interior". It is an automatic....i know i know, but for $8000.00 all the service records, immaculate condition, and under 100k, it seemed a good deal. All I know is that it is the most fun car I have owned, and japanese imports dont know what hit them. Please send me any info you might have on this model, as I am a complete noob.

It is a 3.2L s52b32 motor. Your exterior color is Cosmos Black. Your interior color is sweet. Actually I can't remember the exact name of the interior color.

Bigger is not always better. The s50 was in the 1995 M3 and is easier to tune/mod because it uses OBDI engine management. From 1996 onward, the norm is OBDII, which is more restrictive and not as much can be squeezed out of teh motor as could be done with the earlier engines.

s52 will never catch up, the only odb2 motor in a e36 that rocked was the 320hp s52.

If we're going for technicalities, that is an s52b32 -- as opposed to the poser engine they put in the North American M3, which is the s52b32US.
