I'm hoping a lot of that will change once we start getting more direct injection technology. I know the Cobra engines can run quite a bit of boost reliably even with 'higher' compression ratios. (Compared to what the norm for a forced induction engine would have been 10 years ago.) Hondas still can run high(er) boost with higher compression than a lot of engine designs out there.
The technology is coming.
