It should be on the car registration document, written in the front of the owners manual & service book, ///power on the rocker cover, ///M steering wheel, ///on the seats, /// on the wheels. the dead give away is the suspension!!!, look at the struts, should have ///M you may have to clean the dirt off!!!!

ok thanks alot.
but wut if the shocks have been replaced with say....eibach (theoreticaly) meaning the stock shocks were not on the car. the reason i ask is because it seems to as though someone could go to a junkyard, ebay, etc. and just buy the other parts you were talking about. but is there a certain number(s) in the vin that say its and m3?

E36 M's VIN will always start with WBS vs non M's WBA. not sure about the E30 M's.

all M cars start with WBS, e30's/e28's included. the only exception is the e24 M6, which had WBA.

WBS is the designation for the the munich motorsport plant where they only make M vehicles since the original M1.

even US built e36/7 Z3 M Roadsters/coupes had WBS even though they were built in the US plant designation "4US"
