Cold engine problem on 98 M3

Well, not quite sure if it's engine or tranny...This happens mostly when the car is cold, but sometimes it happens even after I've been on the road for a while. Basically when I come to a full stop (stop sign, red light, what have you), and try to get the car going again, the car hesitates and doesn't want to go into 1st gear (I have an automatic). The problem is if I need the fast acceleration to merge or avoid traffic, I wonder if the car can respond quickly or if it'll pause before the engine or the gear catches on. Help.

I suppose you have a SMG gearbox? Or did the US M3 come with a normal automatic gearbox?

I suggest you to post this question also in the e36 section. More people look there and the (technical) differences between your car and a 325/328 aren't that huge in my opinion.

Btw, welcome to Bimmerwerkz!
