Another Oil to Contemplate!

I'm a new owner of a 02 M3 and have been reading about the Castrol oil 10W60 that was recommended by BMW after the rod bearing recalls on the M3's.
I used to be a Amsoil guy but when I had some work done on an older Vette
the mechanic had to drain my Amsoil that I had just put in about 2 weeks prior.
Anyway, he informed me that he uses Shell Rotella T 5W40 in all his race engines and he really likes it.
I said isn't that diesel oil? He said yes and told me that a few years back all automotive oils were required to remove some additives that really prevented wear and other things, maybe sludge? I don't remember!
That's the reason he started using it. It's the full synthetic Rotella T.
I went home and called Amsoil and asked if this was true about the removal of additives and was informed it was true.
I called the guy back at Thunder Racing in Baton Rouge, La and told him to fill the car up with Rotella T.
I purchased 4 cases with 4 gallons to a case from an oil distributor for $190.72 which comes to $3.01 a quart.
Thunder Racing is a well known shop and is mentioned in automotive magazines.
My M3 just went out of the warranty that BMW gave the M3's after the bearing change and I do believe I'm going to use that oil in the M3 unless someone can convince me otherwise.
I just thought I would throw this out there for food for thought.
Later
Herb
