M3 Clutch - Did I burn it?

I think I've scorched my clutch this afternoon.

I dunno if I let it out too slowly or what but I was in "sport" waiting to enter traffic and someone waved me in. I had a lot of revving but didn't fully engage the transmission so I slipped it into second and I must have let it out too slowly cuz it did the same thing. I smelled something burning in a minute or two. Now, I just don't have the same resistance in the clutch pedal. It feels like any other normal clutch. What have I done?

drive it again... if you don't feel the engine racing, or slip while in gear, you're ok.

If you let it out too slowly for too long, of course you will get that burning smell(In parts of Asia, where u sometimes have to hold a clutch for some 10-15mins at a time, in traffic on an incline; you experience a lot of these-doesn't mean that it burned, though).

unless you clutch pressure plate went bad, there shouldn't be any difference in the clutch pressure from before.

make sure your car is on a leveled ground, engage the parking brake, put it into gear 4. and just act as if u were driving off in gear 1, ((remember 2 have ur parking brake engaged)) if ur care freely revs without stalling. then ur clutch has been burned, if your car stalls out and shuts off u have nothing 2 worry about!!

Thanx Darkhorse 737 As a matter of fact, it seems quite fine now and there is plenty of clutch.

Koffi635CSI I'll still try pulling away in 4th gear but it really does feel fine now.

Could the clutch have felt a little softer because it was hot?
