Handing for an 03 M3 - BMW Forum

I am looking at the E46 M3's but do they handle really good in the corners, cause im wanting to build a track or and do autocrossing, so im just wondering from ppl that have on or have owned one if its a good car to start with or should i look at something else?

Does and M3 handle well? YES

Like any other driving situation the car only handles as well as the driver behind the wheel. I have a buddy who can make anything handle well, even a 1971 Valliant with a column shift.

Autocross... look the M3 has DSC. I can tell you that the few times my M3 was out in the snow and ice the DSC saved my ass. With it off it proved to be very fun and very dangerous. If you're going to beat her through rough roads then I would say no as the repair bills will get up there. If it's for a track car then you can't go wrong. Keep in mind the M3 is heavy but has good power and feels light in high speed cornering. Just make sure your rear shock mounts have been replaced with the stronger reinforced ones. Engine maintenance will also hurt the wallet. The car isn't fragile but it will require a lot of TLC which =$$$.

Do M3s handle well? Nope, M3s handle like a brick with wheels on it. Come on man its an M3 of corse it handles well it would make a great track ride. You should start with your e30 you will learn on a low HP car and how to really utilize it and when you get to a higher hp car you will be much better.

Also the 318is is a pimp ride so sorry for my harshness.

DSC = Dynamic stability Control.

have yet to actually drive one, but after riding in them..yes.

have driven many non M BMW's and they handle good...so imagine what the motorsport suspension does.
