I inquired on the E36 board about various year models of M3s, 96-99, of which would be most desirable. That is, were there any bad years.

Someone commented that make sure I get one without the luxury package or it would have ground effects that looked like a normal E36 sedan. Can anyone help me out with photos of this so that I can see the difference, if there is any?

well there were no bad years for the M3's most desirable one is actually the 1995 OBD1..... the luxury package i thought looked the same but the interior was different, however i could be wrong on this because i have yet to see one.

98-99 the luxury package (in the US at least) had the full M3 look on the exterior except it had M-contour wheels. from 95-97 the luxury package gave the M3 standard sideskirts, a slightly different front airdam, standard-looking seats, and wood trim.

here's a pic comparing the two. top is with luxury pkg, bottom is without.
