Hi I am new to the board and this is my first post. I bought a 97 Audi A4 1.8T six months ago with hopes of making it fast. I soon realized it won't happen. My car was an auto and FWD and the aftermarket was too limited. I have decided to sell it and get an M3. I was wondering if a 95 M3 had a good aftermarket following? I also need to know what to look for wrong and right when buying. I was hoping to find one with 80K miles or less and what should I expect to pay? I have looked at blue book and the cars I see on Autotrader.com are way north of that price. I also want a manual, RWD, and some power again. I also found out that most Audi enthusists are A-holes and I don't want to be associated with them. Any help would be appreciated and sorry about writing a book here.
I'm in the same boat as you. I got a Honda Accord 4 cylinder automatic and I'm looking to make the jump to Bavarian power. Yeah, 20K is what I've seen for cars under 100K miles and good condition.
When dealing in vintage (that's right the e36 is getting old) Bavarian auto's, you can throw that blue book out the window. You will pay a great deal for what you seek, but maybe not 20K. It is feasible to find such a car around $15K, but there in lies the problem. You have to find one. The mere exclusivity of an e36 ///M3 in good shape with a manual makes finding one an arduous task.
If you do a search on Carsdirect.com you'll find several M3's for under 20k. They are in various area around the country but at least you can see what you can get for the money.
Hey Eurotrash, I am new to the forum also....(fist post) Anyway, I recently bought a 95 M3 (last week) It has 77,000 miles on it and i got it for $13,500. The guy wanted 14,950 for it but the nose piece is a little dented and the leather is cracking a little bit on the front seats, but other than that it is in awesome shape! Just be patient and look around you will eventually find something... Were are you located? There is one near me (atlanta) for 11,500 but it has 140,000 miles on it...But it is "mint" condition according to the seller... Here is the website its advertised at...
I live in Cincinnati Ohio. Anyway one more question. Should I get a 95 or try to get a 96+? I know the 95 is OBDI, but what I don't know is if the 96+ has more power, E36 speaking, and are there any drawbacks?

no the 95 and 96+ do not have any diff hp numbers. but the 96+ has more torque. the 3.0 from the 95 was bumped to 3.2l for the 96 because of emissions and the hp would be around 210-220hp. so they made it the 3.2l
