Thanks for your help on my previous post regarding 2000 or 2002 M5. I think I will rule out the 00 based on your input.
Seems that I have another option besides the

I'm test driving the M3 today(will be first time driving an M3),
I realize they are different cars, but any feedback where one shines greater then the other, or issues that one might have over the other, etc. would be appreciated. Even just personal comments about driving them would be great!
This will be a daily driver, likely parked for the snow(I live in Canada).
Prices may be a little better in the states. However in re-selling, especially back to the dealers, is harder to unload an american car in Canada. Dealers typically wont even take them.
An M3 or M5 with snow tires? That will be interesting.
With all the snow and having to park in the snow, doesn't sound that good for the car. Have you drivin the 5 in the snow? with snow tires? Sounds like you need a 4x4 instead of a race car.

Nah, dont plan to drive it in the winter. It is only 3 - 4 months of bad weather. I have a Taurus SHO shodding Blizzaks for that. I DO need a race car.

I don't know what the front-end clearance on the M5 is, but with my '04 M3, front end clearance is only 6".
If you live '1 hour outside Toronto', I'm guessing Barrie / Hamilton / Oshawa?!?
Anyway, snow will be a problem for you.
Driving in the snow is not the issue if you have SNOW TIRES (in fact I test drove an '03 M3 in the winter with snow tires before buying mine, and it was GREAT!).
However, if the roads aren't plowed and snowbanks are >6" then you'll be crying as you drag your front airdam through the snow.
Reading your post, I just got the idea that if you DID want to drive it in the snow, I don't think that it would be a great option with the M3. Drive your Taurus instead.
The M5 may be different with clearance issues, but from what I've seen on the streets here, clearance is similar. I've never driven an M5 but the M3s I test drove and mine as well has been awesome through the spring / summer, and I'm sure fall.
For this GROUND CLEARANCE reason alone, I'm gonna store mine for the winter and short-term lease something for 3 months

Yes, even if you import the car properly. Gauges are different for american cars ( we are metric up here). Also something to do with vehicle records, accidents, etc. You can sell them privately, but some people still take issue with it.
if you have the option between m3 and m5 you should take the m5 without a doubt, it is a sedan, and a sedan that has incredible handling and power...how can you go wrong with that. plus not too many people have them

Thats wierd, my dad has imported a few cars from canada before and even switched the speedo gauges, never had a problem.
