My buddy just ponied up and bought a 2003 M3 with 15 000 km's on it. This thing is absolutley amazing. I bought a Viper 3 years ago and he has been shopping ever since.
Now my question(s). When I bought the Viper, the first thing I changed was the air filter and slapped in a K&N and gutted the exhaust and put on a Corsa cat-back.
Now I am not familiar with the M3 as much as the Viper, but what would be a good exhaust swap (header, catback and exhaust)? My buddy wants to change the exhaust note and net some serious gains. I trust the K&N will net some gains versus the stock filter? used
I was amazed at how hard this car pulled.
Cool site by the way. Any feedback would be great.
I just bought a CORSA for my E 36 M3, and I believe they make one for the E 46 as well. Look at UUCmotorwerkz.com, and you may find what you are looking for. I will let everyone know what it sounds like as soon as I get it installed, I am in the group of the initial REC 36 exhaust coming out in about a weeks time! For intake, I put an AFE on my 98 and it sounds awesome. Another good one for M3s is the Active Autowerkz kit, people tend to like that one.
I don't know about headers cause mine are stock, but for good sound, magnaflow has it in the bag. Stock bimmers don't sound that sweet in general if you ask me, but when I got my magnaflow catback/muffler, it sounded exactly like what I was hoping for. It's a popular exhaust for bimmers along with Borla, but they are way overpriced IMO.

thanks guys, I am going to check out the magnaflow site to see if I can get any sound bits.
Everyone's first reactions when magnaflow is mentioned are like "eww" but trust me, they sound bad ass on bimmers, and have none of that crappy honda-like noise to them from behind the car which I can't stand. My exhaust sets off car alarms when I start the car cold. It's really raspy sounding for the first minute or so, then the sweet tone just comes out and it calms down to a perfect level IMO.
