So today, a M5 owner comes in for a service check up. First thing he says....is Can I drive the red 2001 Dodge Viper SRT-10 while my M5 is being checked out? Service manager says sure. Goes over and gets a sales guy with the keys.

The M5 owner really puts this thing to the test...first with the high RPM revs...a couple times....

Then he takes it out on the streets...

He comes back with the report and says....My M5 has more power. That thing isn't anything compared to what my M5 has. As far as acceleartion, handeling, whatever....my M5 would take it. And then I make the statement that his M5 is probably cheaper too. He says..yep it probably is.

Just FYI our 2001 Viper is going for $74K-$80K....somewhere around there..

So...I thought I'd post something about todays events...being that the M5 is better than the Viper.

I think I must unconsciously want an M car as I keep hitting on the M forum rather than the 5 forum, just as I did now. The M cars are awesome cars, hopefully I will be able to upgrade from my five to an M. Enjoyed your report.

i can see the m5 handling way better, but is the m5 really faster in accel than the srt10 vipers? seems like they would MOP

2 things. The Viper will spank an M5, & an '01 should be going for 55K to 65 K. The good news is that the M5 is a far better automobile in every way.

new M5 = 500 hp out of a 305 ( 5 liter)
new srt viper= 500 hp out of a 505 cu enigne ( 8.3 liter)

viper wieghts 3380 ( for convert)

whats the new m5 wiegh?

and yes i know niether the M5 or viper in the story were new.

The new M5 weighs 4035 lbs, virtually the same as the old M5
