I'm looking to buy a 97 M3. It has about 64000 miles on it. Its a coupe. How much should I be looking to pay for it? For the pre-purchase inspection, should I bring it to a BMW dealer service center or just any mechanic will do? Please advise. Thanks in advance.
I just bought the same car this week. The dealer will do a thorough inspection but will find every stupid thing you can imagine wrong with it and the replacements will of course be 5 times their market value. I'm talking about things like windshield wipers needed the OEM parts and craziness like that.
So it'll get done well, but it will cost you. Plus the inspection itself was pricier than any other place.
Of course the guy I bought the car from is wealthy and wanted it done perfectly and didn't care about the cost, so who was I to argue? haha
So is that guy you're buying from fronting the cost for the pre-purchase inspection, etc? How much was the price that you agreed on and how many miles was on your car? Thanks.
Insist on a prepurchase inspection .... be flexibele on the cost but get it done by a good reputable mechanic. If it's not in great condition then dork it.
I'm not sure about USA but UK prices for that car in A1 condition is between £10k and £15k.

This one is 97 M3 with aftermarket 17" rims and 64K miles on it. He listed for $17K. Is this a good price? It looks to be in pretty good condition. Carfax report checked out ok. Carmax inspection checked out okay as well. Please advise.
Also might be worth asking about the rims. Why are the not original and what happened to them? (receipts of purchase)
