Suspension/shocks/springs suggestions.

Need help. New to M3. Have an 96 e36. When I go over speed bumps, whole car rattles, espectially trunk (spare is secured down and nothing else in trunk). THINK I need suspension work, but don't want anything extravagant or expensive. Any suggestions?
Also, hear "knock" underneath hood. Thought it was a noisy lifter, and then I read on here someone had a similar problem, but it had to do with spark plugs not torqued right. Anyone else know anything about this?

Well when I purchased my 97' the Suspension was the first thing I repaired......

the rear trailing arm bushing went, I had a loud Knocking noise coming from the rear going over bumps & on heavy acceleration........as far as shocks & struts, Bilstein Sports.....H&R Sport Springs.......also replaced front control arms, tie rods, & control arm bushings......
