I had a car checked out not too long ago and there were a few suspension issues. I was wondering what prices may be (how many hrs of labor) for each item and if they were a DIY or not. Anything that has to do with taking the spring off I dont want to do because I think you need a specal tool or no?
1) Rear toe bushings. I searced, are they the same as RTABS or no?
Can these two be individually replaced or do I have to buy new shocks?
2) Shocks: Hats
3) Shocks: Bump stops
Thanks in advance. I couldnt find info on the hats/bump stops, but I did find that the rear toe bushings are about 35 bucks a pair.
1) I think you are talking about rear lower control arm bushings?.
2) They can be replaced.
3) Refer to 2)
If you got to www.pelicanparts.com They have a suspension wizard for e36... suspension.. as I dont know what kind of car you own... if e36... then that wizard will help you find the bushing you want... as for suspension parts... www.mpactmotorsports.com has a lot of the parts you might want... including bump stops.. ect... so does www.turnermotorsports.com
Thanks for your help. I checked the sites you listed but couldnt find the parts I needed. I fount the RTABs but couldnt find the hats or bump stops.
If I do not replace the hats and bump stops what will happen. Will it just screw up the shocks. I'm going to replace the struts/shocks within the next 6 months or so, as long as they can hang in there that long Its all good.
Does anyone know exactly what the two pieces are/do? Thanks
I guess what it means by hats is the RSMs which is a cake install. Im still confused on the bump stops. I cant find them for M3s. I found them for 318's but thats about it. Anyone got any ideas
If I was you... I'd wait it out for a few months when you redo the shocks any ways.... the new ones should come with bump stops... they are rubber bushing like things that provide a level of comfort when the shock is fully depressed... any ways.. just wait her off... they should be fine... if they are old and weak.. dont worry about it... just give her a few months and replace them... if your really worried about it... talk to a dealer... and they will be able to give you some for a minimal charge...
thats what I'm thinking. I dont think it can hurt anything except the suspension, and if it goes it goes and I'll be replacing it in the near future anyway. I will be doing the RTABs and Shock mounts though as that can screw some expensive stuff up. Thanks for your help
If you want a really good Rear shock mount... check out www.rogueengineering.com they have a really really nice one.. I use it.. the best parts for the best car...
