Though it is faster (which I respect), I still stand by the belief with an actual clutch and manual transmission you get much more feel for the vehicle. There is somethin cool to having paddle shift though.

you're right about manual being more real but imagine waking up at 7 in the morning before school having to drive to school with your eyes half closed.. I'd wanna have the option of an automatic... or driving in heavy traffic... so if I can get the combo of the two, especially with those cool F1 paddles that shift at around 0.08 seconds, damn right I would (not talking about tiptronic which sux).

from my readings the 6 spd is faster than the smg

if it is faster its in the gear changes but its slower cause it heavier than the 6 spd its especcially slower from a highway roll

the smg tranny shifts the car in .67 seconds and the first generation smg is like .89 seconds and the new SMG on the M5 is supossed to have a 17 percent drop in shift time from .67 seconds.

The stats I've seen are 4.8 for standard 6-sp and 5.0 for SMG. I believe weight is the only thing that causes the diff. For the record, the shifting is indeed lightning quick and fun as hell in the 6-shift-mode.

Keep in mind the manual shifting time is with a professsional driver, I don't think many people here are that professionals, so therefore for normal driver a SMG could be quicker than a 6 speed manual.

Good point...realistic 0-60 times are most likely in favor of the SMG for us "amateur" drivers.
