I am currently very interested about buying the new BMW M3. I think it's looks and mechanics are unbelievable. I was able to drive a convertible M3 last weekend and went nuts. It was SMG because it was my friend who lives in the city. I am very serious about buying this car and want to know some good reasons why to get one. My friend entered the buttons in the order of the special combo (sounds corny, but true) and was able to expierience the real power of the M3. I fell in love. This was a 2004 BMW M3 Convertible.

There is a certain number of buttons that you hit in a row that lets you enter a sequence which allows you to really red line your car and then do a burnout also striking a burnout right on the shift. It was so cool. It is posted on some website. I will get you the info and post it. It has to do with hitting buttons such as the sport button and a few others but in a certain order. Give me a few hours.

As for your original question, as a new M owner all I can say is the car is beauty in motion man. Smooth ride but quick as hell.
i have an E36 and am compleatly addicted. As for the new M's i have heard nothing but awsomeness lol if i were you i would go with a coupe and a 5/6 speed, converts looks nice, but are heavier and SMG is fun but not as responsive as true manual! those are just my .02 hope it helps!

I understand your love for manual. I am not such a great driver in manual just because I haven't really driven that many manual cars before. I really love how the SMG handles like a stick shift. Have you driven the new M3's. It is pretty damn responsive.
Also for Edrock, the button combo is called M3 Controlled Launch. You can look it up on search engines. It was a huge hit in many magazines with many articles about the great "M3 Controlled Launch." I hope you are able to find it. Just to let you know, the controlled launch was lowered significantly from European cars to American cars because in Europe, a lot of people were screwing up their engines. The "M3 Controlled Launch" for American cars was made differently so that no damage could be done to the car itself. You should be able to find it.
i HIGHLY recommend the 6 speed, it will take you one day to learn how to drive with it 'reasonably' well. It will be much more gratifying than smg once your shifts start getting more consistent.
The smg is nice, but by no means as fun or gratifying than a manual transmission could be with a week of hard driving and learning the basics of how the car handles.
I understand what you are saying. I, however, do tend to sit in traffic daily. Either going to school or coming home from school. I sit on I-95 for so long, inching up. I just think it might be a hassle for me to drive manual everyday, whether it is because I would get annoyed with it or just because I would have a coffee in my hand and wouldn't want to shift so much. Of course you still have to shift with the SMG, but it has paddle shifting as well. I am sure if I was using this car as a weekend car which I will be as well, I would want the 6-speed because I would have more fun with it but, again, I am using it as an everyday car.

the computer keeps track and i think after about 8 of those, not really sure how many, your warranty is voided
