I currently own a 1994 Toyota Supra TT with about 500HP. I been thinking of selling it and getting me an 2002 M3 coupe with the SMG trans. and I had some question that I wanted to ask the experts here...
I have never owned a German car, I always had a Toyota or Lexus so anything that you guys can tell me or warn me it would be very appreciated.
1) How good and reliable is the SMG trans.? I ask b/c Im in a wheelchair and I can not drive a 6-speed, so the SMG is my only option.
2) Do this cars have any weakness..? or tipical problem that I should look out for?
3) How is the maintance of this car? would it kill your wallet?
4) What would you say is a good price for a completely stock 2002 M3 coupe with the SMG.?
And please feel free to tell me anything else that you guys think that I should know.
1)SMG is bullet proof, if they use it for F1 you can be assured that it works fine in all other cars, but seriously, its solid.
2)Only weakness would be the weight, its a little on the heavy side. The engines had a problem a few years ago but those have been fixed.
3)If you buy new it comes with 36000 mile free maintence and 100,000 mile warranty on the engine, everything else has 50,000 mile warranty.
4)Depends on mileage and condition, anywhere from 42,500 - 47,500.
M3 is a hell of a car, it will be a lot different from your supra, and once you go german you don't go back, trust me, no one makes cars like the germans, drive a BMW and you'll see what I'm talking about....they're called the ultimate driving machine for a reason.

great run down cam the engine problems were only for short period during the 2001 production M3's, which have been recalled. SMG M3's are awesome cars, the only down side of smg is if you use launch control more than twice it voids part of your warranty
I probably buy the car used thru my brother that is a wholesaler. So that way I probably have to pay the maintance my self.... so how much maintance do you have to do to it...???

BMW recommends that you change oil every 15,000 miles. That's way too long an interval for me, but if that's what the manufacturer says, you should be able to follow it and expect the engine to run smoothly for a long time. There are two major inspections, done at 15,000 and 30,000 miles respectively.

theres also a 1000 mile maintence. and there are many small tune ups and things, like everytime we bring ours over there , theres some new software that they have which they install to update the car. pretty cool stuff

Yeah, the first 1,250-mile oil change after the break-in period. I just downloaded the 2004 M3 owner's manual from BMWNA's Owners Circle. Pretty cool... it does specify how you need to break in the engine.
