how can a m3, the v6, beat the 540i, a v8?

With all do respect if you don't know that an M3 does not have a v6 then I am not sure you would understand the answer.

the M3 has 333hp with an INLINE 6. the 540i has a 290 hp V-8. the M3 weighs less than the 540i as well

unlike america imports dont believe in huge displacement engineering in their cars. sometng america desperatly needs to learn cough*cadilac 16,8.0Lviper, etc*cough.

although u are probably not knoladgable enough to know the difference the m3 is an i6, a porsche is an h6, etc.

v doesnt stand for 'the number of cylnders is :

a subaru wrx a fun little h4 has 4 cylinders and can smoke a 850i v12.

ur brain --- err i mean automotive knowlege is too small to understand if i explain fully therefore long story short, power to weight ratio is less in the 540

in the e36 -- i mean 'old shape' 240hp/3000lb > 282hp/4000lb
e46/new shape 333hp/3400lb > 325hp/4000lb
