I am a new member.
I bought a new 2003 M5 this january, and i have been adding 5 full bottles of engine oil so far. The on-board screen said CHECK ENGINE OIL and the oil level was at bottom. I had a first service on 3,000 MI and the problem started after 4,000 or 5.000 MI. It seems to happen every 1,500 -2,000 MI, and ny car currently has 12,000 MI.
The Mckenna BMW and Nick Alexander BMW in California said it was quite normal for M5 and they simply added a full bottle of engime oil, and that was it.

Guys, please let me know if it's normal that happens often to other new M5?
I was suppecting that the piston sealings might be leaking.

Please let me know.
Steve

well according to the M5 board they dont go through oil like that. They said for the first 1500 miles it consumed a bit of oil but after that none really. Do you have a leak? Do you have any Bluish smoke coming out of your tailpipes? Did you break in the engine properly?

I wouldn't consider that normal for any engine with under 50,000 miles on it. My Mustang uses that much oil and it has 240,000 miles on the motor and over 60 passes at the drag strip.
