Obd?

alright i'm definitely new to this whole bmw scene, just bought an e36 M3, and i've seen a lot of posts that mention obd I and obd II? what are they and what's the difference

since i see you have a 97, you have OBD-2. which is the On Board Dianostics. It is more of a restricted emissions then the older OBD-1 which was from - 95, which the older ones have a sniff tester at the exhaust pipe, now when you get it tested, they just hook it up to a computer through a port in the cabin and thats pretty mcuh it.
