noisy fan

i just picked up my 97 M3 and it only has 43,000 miles on it. the fan seams to be really loud. when you excelerate and the revs come up, the fan just gets louder. its annoying, i always hear the fan. even at 60mph just cruzing, i still here it humming up front. anyone have any suggestions?

I assume you mean the belt-driven fan rather than the electrical auxiliary pusher fan. You might check the fan clutch. If there is brownish-looking dust on its vent fins or if it wiggles back and forth slightly when the car is running, then you have a busted fan clutch. This is a common ailment on our cars. I replaced mine a few months back and it cost me about $250.

Your fan should not be making that noise... does it spin freely with the engine turned off?

There is something very similar in the Bentley manual... I suggest getting one if you havnt already.

Simple Solution... Do the fan delete mod for $80 and pick up 8Hp at the same time
