| New Here Need Help Hi, new here and was looking for some mechanical help. I've tried researcing but to no avail.
Just picked up a 1989 525i that has an overheating problem. Previous owner replaced the waterpump and fan. I was told that it probably was a head gasket and did some checking into the problem and found that:
- engine overheats and the radiator remains cold.
- I have removed the thermostat and nothing but steam is passing through
the housing.(checked the vent and that's what came out).
- Thermostat opens and closes properly (checked in boiling water)
- there appears to be oil in the radiator but no water in the oil.
I suspect that the leak is on the exhaust side thus the steam. If it was a head gasked problem, I would have thought that some water would get through the engine but there is nothing. Is this possibly also a symptom of a cracked head????
Any thoughts would be appreciated. |
