need electrical help please

hi
can somebody help me with my headlight please?
first of all, my check engine light is on while the key is in position 2.
second, my passenger's side headlight is dimmer then the driver's side.
the hi beam is always on, but lit very dim on both sides.
when i switch to hi beam, only the driver's side is on. right side will go out all together.
i've checked the fuse, they're all good. bulbs suppose to be still good, coz they're still working, just not bright enough.
some people have said that it might be the ground wires. i've checked the ground wires on the right side, and they're fine.
what could this be?

These can be really tough. Get a volt meter and work your way back from the problem. Be careful don't ground what you don't want to or cross anything. Take readings at the headlight plug. Check the readings against the side that is good. Move back toward the firewall and take readings again on the same wires. Ideally you want to go in steps all the way back to the switch and fuse box. The idea is to find out if there is a short or other problem and where it starts. All the wires being wrapped or in a harness can be a pain. Plugs are known to give problems so take a close look at those. Check in the plug and directly behind the plug. There may be some typical things to look for. You may want to ask tech or xtech. Their experience for this type of problem could be very helpful.

if your check engine light is on while you drive then to run ecu codes pump the gas pedal five times within five seconds and then you check engine light will flash like one of those racing stoplights 3 times and then the light will begin to flash the codes. im sure the codes are some where on the internet or buy a 3 series service manual
