My engine saga.

In October I decided to change the valve cover gaskets, the camshaft position sensors, and some other minor components.

Well I got the valve covers on and the intake manifold gaskets installed.

Bad news is I dropped a screw into the head and it fell down an oil passage.

So I took the lower oil sump off, the oil pump, and fished a magnet into the lower sump in an attempt to pull the screw out.

I failed and now have to remove the lower sump. That means lifting the engine, an lowering the suspension.

Fucking garbage.

I held the power steering pump up with coat hangar wire. It is bolted to the upper sump.



Crankshaft, pistons, etc.

Pics of the sump out of the car. I did not take pics of the process of it coming out because I was filthy and it isn't easy with one person.

I ended up having to pull down on the backside of the suspension support member while trying to manuever the sump out.

After pulling the baffle plates off I found it. Hiding near the oil pickup screen. I suspected it to be here all along.

On Friday the 17th of February, a friend and myself put the M5 back together. We started at 12:30 ish and had the car off jack stands and engine started at 8:30 ish. 8 hours of work, it was pretty tough.

These pics are from yesterday. I let it sit overnight after my test drive on Friday to make sure nothing leaked.

A little traction breaking to get it on the Rhino ramps.

wow... sounds like a lot of work, and looks like you really got to dig into the engine... i love that m5 motor... its just pure art! and the skid trying to get on the ramps? you hit it hard enough that you burnt rubber??? id be worried abou riding over the other end of the ramps if i hit it that hard!
