Is my 99 M3 okay?

Hi,
I have a 1999 M3 and recently ran out of gas with it. My range computer said I had 10 miles left
but I ran out and the car sputtered into the gas station. At that point the check engine light came on. After I filled it back up it has ran fine ever since but the check engine light is still on.
Is this related? If so what is wrong? I had heard never to do this so I am a little concerned.

Might need to have dealer reset your codes and shit man...

I don't know for sure, but that's what it sounds like...

check the dealer for the codes. the OBD can only guess how many miles per tank according to the average MPG
