M3 V B3

Hi, New to the forum so plz be gentle.

Im currently looking to buy a (E46) M3 Convetrible. Ive basically narrowed it down to the colour/spec that I want but a spanner has been thrown in the works. Basically I spotted a B3 Alpina convertible and now what do I do?

Its really difficult to get more info on the B3 for some reason so thats why Im here. I need to know if the B3 is a better car in terms of resale as its pretty obvios they are much rarer and more desirable than the M3 but why does the price seem to be lower?

Would someone plz care to shine some light on the subject and tell me what the difference are.

Thank you.

And here is where it gets complicated. The M3 is faster. Period. It has more power and that pretty much means it's gonna' be faster. However, the Alpina is generally a nicer car, having been fitted with upgraded interior, a nice, subtle body kit, and some engine upgrades. Not sure about suspension upgrades... As far as pedigree goes, the Alpina cars are built by BMW and Alpina. BMW manufactures the car up to a certain point in the assembly process, then it is handed over to Alpina to finish. There are a ton of tuning options available for either car, so you can't go wrong here. Basically, either of them is going to bring a smile to your face. The M3 being slightly more common, but faster. ANd the B3 being quite a bit more rare, but sacrificing a bit of speed. Have you test driven either? I mean, that's a really hard choice, given that they are both convertibles, and both such excellent cars. You almost need to get them together and drive them in succession, so you can compare them against one another. Anyone else want to chime in here? I'm not exactly a subject matter expert on Alpina. I just know the basics, and where to look

thanks mate, you`ve been very helpful. Think its time to do some more reasearch into this and possible take both for a test drive. The B3 is listed at 280bhp..........which sounds puny as my fiesta will be be running that by the end of the year. Just dont want to lash 40k out and end up buying the B3 and get wasted by M3 man.

still searching, and have brought my spend down to arround the 35k mark. The B3S seems to be going at around 31-33k which are around 2k less than what the M3 is.

Im rather annoyed at the BMW dealers lack of knowledge on cars they are selling!
