m3 rear springs

i have a 1998 m3. the rear springs have 4 paint marks per coil. i also have a 1997 328is. the springs on this have 3 paint marks per coil. what are the marks for and whats the difference. thanks, tom

Well, I replaced my stock springs with H&R Sport Springs & kept my old springs in a box..... are you referring to the rear springs & 4 paint spots......I have a 97' 328i w/ the sport package.... my rear stock springs have the same markings, so knowing that your M3 has a Sport Suspension & my 328i has the Sport Suspension maybe it's a reference to being a Sport Suspension spring......
