Howdy. While letting a "friend" drive my 96 M3 last week, he lost it and put it straight into a telephone pole. The car is totaled and I didn't have full coverage insurance, so I'm screwed. Anyway, I am going to buy a 93 or so 325i and put all of the M3 stuff (engine, spoilers, seats, etc) into it. My concern is whether or not I can just hook up all of the electronics from the 325i engine to the 3.2 OBDII M3 engine and just have a custom chip made, or do I have to use the wiring harness from the M3. I would rather use the 325i electronics as I can then perform more performance upgrades. If anyone has any info that would be great.

your best bet would be ot transfer the engine over and the electronics, then perform and obd 1 conversion on it.

First off, that sucks. Accidents happen, but what a moron (your ex-friend that is).

Depending on your economic status, you might do as I did...

I wanted the performance of an ///M3 but didn't care to pay for the additional maintenance as I keep my autos perfect. My last car (Porsche 951) nearly put me in the poorhouse with all the attention she required.

So, I bought a 325is and went to work. As opposed to an ///M engine, I dropped in an M52 2.8L engine. THen converting it back to OBDI and adding a few other mods I enjoy similar performance to a 1995 ///M3. By the time I am done, my target is 255hp and 250ft/lbs tq. (those numbers are quite feasible).

Most of the work was performed by Zionsville Autosport, and they have any and all conversion kits you can think of. THey are very respected by those in the BMW community and provide high quality components. {CLICK HERE}

If you seek more power than this, forget everything I just said :P
