I had the "pleasure" of dragging around a loaner 2004 530i when I had to take my M3 in for some minor issues. Granted a 4.0 V8 is nothing like a 3.0 i6, the overall feel of the car was something I did not enjoy much. An unfortunate consequence of owning an M3 (which I'm learning after just owning mine for 3 or so months) is that many cars, no matter how nice, just aren't fun to drive anymore. On a positive note, I did enjoy certain elements of the 530i such as the luxurious, smoother feel...something I will most likely be looking for when I'm 40+ years old. Unfortunately, even though price points are similar, if you want an overall fun and amazing car, the M3 is the way to go. You can always get big, luxury sedans in life, but enjoying an M3 in the prime of your life is an experience worth going for. If you were to drive the two one after the other, I think "amazing" would come out of your mouth after driving the M3, but something more akin to "very nice and smooth" would be the words you say after driving the 540i (btw, do they even make those for 04? I thought it was the 545i). I personally just see the 5 series (sans the M5) as a torquey super-handling boat...
i have something else to say, get an m3 if you want an elegant race car, or get a 540 if you want a roomy luxurious car, that will never let ya down, and is still fun to drive.............but nothing compares to the fun you would have with an m
All i can say is HOLY FUCK, i love it... Even though im taking it easy and braking it in im still having tons of fun, the power it has is amazing, the attention it attracts is too wild...
The color of the one i got is super unqiue (Brass) it looks totaly different in the day light compared to night time.
Ill take some pics once my bro gives me back my camera...
M3 for life! :P well maybe M5 later... heheh
