I installed a AA track pipe and a M50 manifold on my 1997 M3 last week. The top end power increase is unbelievable. Instead of flattening out after about 4k it just keeps on pulling. I put them on at the same time so I am unaware of which gave me the most hp. I would reccomend these upgrades for anyone with an OBD II 328 or M3.

For the M50 manifold:

I located one in the bimmerforums.com classifieds. They will range anywhere between 100-150 bucks. If you use the DIY method you will spend an extra 25-50 dollars for fittings and hoses and whatnot.

I used the team-barDIY method with the helf of the Midnight Autowerks DIY listed on the team-bar page.

I also sourced the AA track pipe off of the bf.c classifieds. You can find all the info you need about this mod at Active Autowerke website.

If you would like any other information about these upgrades please let me know, I will help as much as I can.

Yup, nice. I'd love to drive your car. As I have that 328 engine with the M50 intake and an aftermarket exhaust and know what your talking about, Very linear.

BMWL2, have you flashed your softare to take further advantage, or no? Oh, and if you haven't already, you can further take advantage of the M50 manifold's better breathing by adding a decent CAI and a euro m3 MAF. Not like you don't know, just encouraging you to spend more money :P

What exactly does the AA track pipe eliminate or do?

I'm removing my cat in 2 weeks and making it so I can slap it back in for emissions with a couple of bolts. Does the track pipe remove that?

If you are ever in the Mid-Ohio valley let me know and you can drive it. As for software I havent had it done yet (wating for income tax return ) then my ECM is off to AA for custom tuning. As for CAI, a friend of mine is getting pretty good at fabrication so we are gonna work on a custom intake. Probably end up looking something like AA's or ECIS's. We are also going to attempt a on piece aluminum underpanel, removing all the plastic stuff as mine is pretty trashed anyways.

I didnt think I could use the euro MAF on my car due to my car being OBD II. I have also read that a 540 maf is a decent upgrade.

I would guess that it would have similar effects. All would depend on the quality of the manufactured pipe you replaced it with.

IMO, just go with the track pipe. Super easy install, assuming you have a floor jack and jack stands, good bit of weight reduction, and it is shiny

Fast enough to get me speeding tickets

As far as quarter mile times I am not sure, I will be able to tell you that in the spring.

I also plan on getting a full dyno tune this spring also so I will be able to tell you just how much power I have.

I would loveeeeee a track pipe. But I live in Cali and im not sure id be doing sucha good deed there seeing how the traffic laws over here are inforced 10000% more and I live in the subs where cops have nothing to do. What do you recomend, it seems you have experiance with yours mods and Ive always been intrested in AA 3 gen exhuast?

I also ordered the xbrace last week, what other mods would you say would be good.

I have heard good things about the AA gen 3, but I have never heard one in person. I will always talk up my UUC system U though, I like it very much and have had it on for the better part of a year now.

As for what to get you can always start out with the big 3(CAI, Exhaust, Chip/flash) that is never a bad place to start. It all depends on how many mods you are going to go after. I waited to get my ECM flashed last so I can get it tuned to all my other mods, to get the max out of them.

I guess what I am asking is what are you going to do with your car?
