How does an M3 and M5 compare? in perfomance etc.. in my area you could get a super clean m3 for around 20 and sometimes an M5 will pop up so I just would like to learn a little more. thanks, dane
e46 m3s are 333hp and flat out rock and of course are 2dr
e39 m5s are 393hp and also kick some serious arse but are 4drs.
Go to edmunds.com and go to USED CARS and then APPRAISE a car and then select your vehicle and then hit SPECIFICATIONS on the left and it'll give you most good info.

For that price, I assume you're looking for an e36 M3 or an e34 M5? Unfortunately, I know nothing about those years.
if its e36 m3 the s50 and s52 motors are built to last.. not to many s54 (i think thats the e46 m3 motor) over 100k yet so we have yet to see (as we would with any new production car) but if trends continue should be no problem.... it al really depends on what you like.... personally im a 3 series guy... like a lot on the boards... i would buy an m3 over an m5 anyday... thats just me, doesnt mean the m5 isnt a great car its personally choice.
Yeah that. m5 gets you all around luxury, performance... and the best that bmw has to offer.
m3 is sheer performance. Unadultered. Although it's also kind of luxurious, comparatively to some cars, the luxury is added as an afterthought imo.
EDIT: Yesh, it REALLY does depend on the year, because the newest m5 has 499hp and well over 300+ft/lbs torque. It eats many cars for breakfast.
