Okay, here's my story. I bought a brand-new 2005 M3 and, while i looked on in horror, the sales guy attached the front license plate with two self-tapping screws. I was pretty sure that putting holes in my brand-new front bumper was not the right thing to do, be he assured me that it was.
When I got the car home, I looked in the trunk and what should I find there but something that looks exactly like a front license plate mount. So my question is: How do I attach the front license plate mount? There's nothing in the owners' manual about it and there are no instructions. Also, if it doens't cover up the hole the put in it, should I demand that they replace the front bumper?

I sure as hell would. I wouldn't have let him near my car with any type of sharp object. My 98 M3 didn't have a front plate on it. Mine was sitting in the trunk. The guy just told me that i could get pulled over for it. I said no problem. No one is getting near my M with tools other than me or the guy in the shop if it needs it. U shoulda put the tap screws in his arse for doing that. Tell the dealership that they need to give you a new one or fix it. If they give you crap then tell em you are gonna contact BMW usa. That should get you somewhere. if they don't then call BMW usa.

(sigh) less than a hundred miles and already it has gratutious holes in it. I looked at some of the pictures here and I think the front license plate mount will cover the existing holes, so I will ask them to fix the holes but not replace the bumper. I also think the the mount is attached by screwing those self-tappping screws into the bumper. Which seems a bit silly to me for a car as well made and, frankly, expensive as it is. Oh, and yeah I live in DC where it's $100 ticket for no front license plate. Well, it used to be $100, it probably went up again...
