Why is it that some of you disparage other BMW forums? We're all enthusiasts and it would seem to me that in the persuit of knowledge, you guys would welcome any new information that may floating around out there, regardless of what board it comes from. I like this place and I hope you do not take offense to my candor, but this forum can be a bit thin on substance when it comes to new and relevant BMW information - and outside of a few mods and regulars, many comments are made based solely on speculation and personal opinion.

For instance - a comment from "powerm" in the taking delivery tomorrow thread... "PS As for competetor Forums. This one kicks ass...stick around"

Why do you see other forums as competitors, honestly? It's about enthusiasts learning and sharing, right?

As for a 2005 M3, yes, there will be one. In fact, there will be more than one...

http://www.bimmerfest.org/forums/showthrea...26&page=1&pp=25

"MY05 M3
-Laguna Seca Blue no longer available
-new color: A30 (interlagos Blue)-- available with ZCS only (coupe only)
-New option package for coupe only: ZCS (Club Sport Package)
---modified suspension, more direct steering ratio
---M track mode for DSC
---cross-drilled compound brakes
---alcantara wheel/handbrake
---aluminum trim
---19" cross-spoke wheels
---cruise control delete"

The above is another board that I frequent, and while it may not be as technical as say, bimmerforums.com, there are several boardmembers who are either salesmen, general managers, techs or advisors - or in one case - one of the german members who actually works in the BMW Munich plant. He always has fresh info that few are privy to.

It is not my intention to attack the board or any of its members. It just strikes me that many of you are closed-minded and even threatened by outside intereference and personally, I feel it is counterproductive to the spirit of any enthusiast resource.

Just my 2.

I hit reply, scathing retort in mind but have just concluded that I can't be bothered.

Surely you are guilty of your own crime by posting this in the M section rather than Forum comments or the members lounge....

If a forum is not for people to air their opinions then you might be right, however, we are a collection of enthusiasts (as stated) not bmw employees and if you prefer the style of another forum then fair play to you!

I don't see other forums as competition, just less suitable to my personal preferences... as this one is to you, obviously.

Maybe you would like to contribute to this forum in the way you suggest and people will be very appreciative. Most people DO contribute in a very useful way, you tend to find that the only people who don't are the ones lacking the depth of knowledge that many others have available to answer questions.

You have a very fair point, but I think what you find here is a more easy-going place to chat about shared interests rather than being all about the info and details.... (that is why this forum kicks ass.) I think another factor in this is that the age of forum member may be a bit lower here than other bmw sites due to the high percentage of US members. (who can drive a lot younger than europeans)

That 'new model' M3 sounds like the a cross between 330 clubsport sold in europe and the styling on the CSL..... doesn't sounds as exciting as the pictures we've seen though.

Hopefully this is a fair reply to your point without being insulting or rude.

"So my BM makes me a flash bastard? Then I guess you're just keeping it real from the seat of your nova?"

"...and the home of the brave..... is bravey 130bhp from a 7 litre engine? 100bhp/litre or don't bother building it!"

"Aaahh the UK; where every road is jammed, under construction, poorly maintained and unfairly policed, at least we don't get over-taxed for it........ HA HA HA!"

Add= I've just looked at the thread you linked to bimmerforums and there is just as much opinion and conjecture on there as there is in these forums!

Preface: Yesterday was a bad one and I was in a particularly foul mood when I posted that last night.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Points taken. I did not find you response to be rude in any way. It was fair and honest, just as I tried to present my observation - so I too hope that I did not come across as being rude. That was not my intention.

You are probably correct about collective age of this group coloring my impression. This is a younger crowd than I am accustomed to so the tone is a bit different. I must be getting curmudgeonly in my old age! Regardless, this is a nice community and again, it was not my intent to attack or offend anyone.

As for contributing - I do try to provide information when I feel it is useful and am confident in its accuracy. Read any of my posts and I think you will find this to be true. Outside of that, I try keep my mouth shut and my ears open. Some do not, and I suppose that just goes with the territory. There is an old saying... "Those who know the least always know it the loudest."

BTW, you were excluded from my original rant as I typically find the information you provide to be interesting, accurate and useful - even though you are going to work for Volvo.

I think we all know those days, Thanks for replying. I didn't find you rude, I am just very aware that I rant in my replys.

I understand your points and they are true. There are definatley a lot of areas where the community could improve but that happens by people like yourself joining and contributing across forums. We don't all have the secret link to information but when there is news it's nice to hear....

Thanks for your comments..... and I've already told the Swedes that I don't want a company car

Nice one

Just to add another point to this soup.
Not all of us have the time or energy to go to many different forums. I love my car. I love learning about my car, but there ARE some other places to get information. I have just settled on this one as the forum that I'm most comfortable with given the information that shows up, and, particularly early on, in the detailing tips and variety of opinions that board members had. I think it can be traced to all aspects of this board.

NEway, my point was, that there is no ONE place that has ALL the information that members crave, but as Mr White G put it,

and, it's nice to hear that people bring information from other places (including links to other forums) to this one as well.

Just my $0.02
