First M3 service

I just got a new M3 and drove around for aprox 1500 kilometers. The manual recomends a first service at 2000 kms however the only apointment they offer me is after my summer holidays which I planned to take the car on. I was wondering how important it is to carry out the service at exactly 2000km. Ans also what exactly do they do? is it just an oil and filter change? Can I get it done by one of the quick lub places?

If it makes any difference its has an SMG II gearbox

personally i wouldnt get it done at a jilly lube if i were you,, just get it done before its schedule or just after...

There is much more then just an oil and filter change after the break in period. You need to take it to the dealer. As I remember there are about 50 things on that list. SMG fluid and rear end fluid are also done. You do not havr to be exact on the miles just call and have the dealer do it. There are warrenty issues also.

The 2000km change includes, but is not limited to,
-oil change
-filter change
-transmission fluid change
-diff fluid change
-and a bunch of little stuff.

They changed all of it under warranty at my local dealer. ('04 M3 SMG). If you go to a Jiffy Lube you'll pay $$, but I understand this is covered under your service plan when you go to the dealer.

please whatever you do, don't take to a jiffy lube! if you are going to be on your vacation check and see if there is a dealer near your spot that you are spending your time there.
