Fan Runs After The Car Is Turned Off

Just bought my 2nd m3a (4door 98). The only things wrong with it were a power steering leak (needs some new clamps) and the auxiliary fan runs after the car is turned off. I had to disconnect the battery (could not find a fuse to turn it off).

Any ideas at to what may be wrong? Replays? Double temperature switch? Anyone else had this problem on a e36 m3?

my fan runs too. its to cool downt he egine.. thats what i understand. it turns off after a while (max maybe 10-15 mins if uwere driving realllllly hard)

hmm the auxillary fan should continue to run if the car is very hot, so i'd be more concerned about your car overheating than the fan continuing to run

I believe E36 M3's have had problems in the past with there temp sensors? Also check your water pump to make sure your cooling is sufficient

I let it run for about 40 minutes last night. Talked to my techs at bmw of little rock today. They said it would be one of the relays: k21 or k22. Normal speed relay and the high speed relay. A $16 dollar item. Hope they are right.

It was the normal speed relay. $16 item.
