E39 M5 Service Costs?? - BMW Forum

Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea on service costs on the E39 M5, and what sort of MPG you get?

The MPG issue is not so much my problem, but more that fact that the company will be paying fuel, and they may not like a possible huge monthly bill.

I assume this engione is chain cam rather than belt?

Can't give maintance cost since I haven't had any. I bought my CPO '01' in October '03' with 35K miles. I now have 49K. Other than an oil change and tires every 25K miles, I won't see maintance costs for another two years.

I get 19 MPG on average. To pacify the company, simply add a few extra dollars of gas each week not reported to the company - problem solved.

Yes, cams are chain driven. When you open the oil fill cap, you can't help but see it.

P.S. Don't even think of driven one of these with ANY snow on the ground.

Funnily enough, bought this weeks AutoCar Magazine last night and there is an article on the new M5, it then has a few pages on buying an old shape one.

Sevicing is very reasonable, £180 for a oil service and £280 for inspection 1, and £365 for inspection 2. Not too much different to my old SEAT Leon TDi.
They ran one for a year and was very pleased with it apart from some a/c problems, and sensor problems, which was put down to the short stop/start journies done evry day.
