Difference Between 96 & 99 M3

Hi there! firstly, nice forum.

secondly, i wonder if any of you could help me. I'm a student studying Motorsport engineering and my current project is comparing two engine's. I've chosen the S52 and S54 engines of the M3.
If anyone could point me out to some good web sites, or even write up some knowledge on here on what improvements have been made, etc. I'd be most grateful. I have the specs, so don't need that. Also, if you can, UK models only please....

Whoa now correct me if i am wrong. the two M3 engines were the OBD1 and OBD2 also.... the OBD1 known as the S50 i think.. and OBD2 as the S51. Now the revised 315 hp engine put into the BMW M coupe(and euro m3's) was a tweaked OBD2 known as the S52. I think the S54 is the E46 M3... This is all from memory so i am not sure.

It's either 96 ot 97 they made the switch to OBD2. I have a 97 on OBD2 and I BELIEVE 96's are the same....

Not positive though.

there was differnece btw the 97 and 99 m3. they were both e36's with the S50b32. the s54b32 wasnt out until 2000
