After a grueling 48 hour wait (I couldn't make it to the dealership yesterday, and the dealer has a day off today...)
I am finally taking delivery of my new 2004 M3 Coupe tommorow.,
options are:
Titanium Silver
Black Leather
SMG2
Premium/Cold Pkgs
Xenon
Harman Kardon
Park Distance
Anyways, if you read the other thread, I got a great deal, but I'm always up for more free stuff
Few questions:
1. Were there any changes to 2004 M3s over previous years? i heard LED brakelights . but what else
2. Will there be a 2005 M3?
3. Should i pump the dealer for some extra stuff from their merchandise store, t-shirts, keychains, that sort of stuff? - he doesn't seem like the kind of guy that will offer it, i had to play 2 hours of hard to get over the phone for him to drop the price a measely 3500
in retrospect that seems like quite a lot in this current market for new M3s, but coming from being a complete 100% porsche guy (almost didnt buy the M3 to buy a Cayenne S), I'm used to easy discounts, especially from NJ dealers, and they will goodwill $5k~ just for the business.
I've heard wonderful things about this place, and you people are very helpful, this praise comes from even 'rival' boards such as rennlist/ppbb.com

The 2004s, from what I know, have only been very minor changes of which I do not know. The 2003's (like mine) had normal taillights in the begining and by 2003.5 they had the LED's which sucks because I wished I had gotten those.

Again, from what I know there will be an 2005 M3, and they have begun designing the new generation M3 but I don't believe it will be available in 2005.

Yea, I really only got a few keychains and things but I had wished that we had gotten more. My stepdad had a Porsche Cayenne and he has gotten: Clear corners, hats, t-shirts, stickers, dashkits, clear sidemarkers, rear wing... and more. All for free

Trust me... having both the cars in my family and driving them on a reletively regular basis, the M3 just completely owns the Cayenne S. I know it is a SUV but still. However, for an SUV it is PIMP.
GOOD LUCK
PS As for competetor Forums. This one kicks ass...stick around
What deal did you get on your M3. I have a friend who said he got $4K off the sticker for the car, not sure if he's bad w/ math or if its possible to get a deal like that. Also I plan on paying in cash do they give better discounts if you pay in cash?
I believe another change in 2004 M3's is DVD-based navigation. That's why there are shark fins on the 2004's and not on earlier models.
I got $4500 off sticker when I bought mine, and I had to bitch and moan about floor mats (unbelievable). I still had to buy my own freakin' wheel locks. Go figure...dealership throws in mats, but won't throw in $30 wheel locks...]
I paid in cash and got an OK deal. I'm 95% certain that salesmen do not consider payment options during the price negotiations. Once the OK to buy is done, then a completely independent group (the finance side) steps in. I've heard that salesmen will drop prices if they know they'll make it up in interest on a loan or lease, but since credit checks aren't even run until the deal is agreed upon, I'm inclined to think otherwise.
Was there a markup on the car? $4.5K off sticker (I'm assuming MSRP) means the car was sold near invoice, which I thought would be pretty hard to negotiate. Where did you buy your car, also what tactics did you use? I like getting a good deal but I'm not trying to stick around a dealership for hours on end trying to get them to stop padding their profits.
Sorry, I should've been more clear. I got $2K off sticker and was able to haggle $2.5K more on my Acura RSX Type-S trade-in, effectively, making my deal $4.5K better than initially proposed. I got my car at Claridge BMW in Fremont, CA. The only tactic I used was just telling them that if they agreed to my out-the-door price w/ trade-in, I'd sign the papers today. I did go, however, later in the day and was the last person there. I got kinda lucky and the salesman had an urgent need to get home but wanted to make the sale. Other than luck and just a little stubborness, it didn't take too much for me to get my deal.
Yeah, I was quite pissed when I realized AFTER getting home from the dealership that I didn't have floormats. Luckily, since it was late in the day, I had to return the next day to hand over the cashier's check, which gave me enough leverage to be an ass about them.
Moogle:
Welcome. The only change I know of that is officially documented is the LED tallight setup. Having said that, I test drove an '03 with SMG prior to sealing the deal for my '04 with SMG, and felt that the software shifted differently. I've run my car for over 4500km now and noticed a big difference between the first 2000km break-in and after (now feels much better and powerful), but it's still different from the well-used '03 that I test drove.
As far as deals, in Toronto, the market for these is pretty hot so I ended up paying sticker price. BUT, the sales guy was awesome and I got the following extras which I asked for:
Boomerang2 (if you don't know what this is, see Boomerang Website)
A well-done clear bra stoneguard application
35% tinted windows on sides and back (again, a job well done)
Wheel locks all around
Non-M Floormats (didn't want ANOTHER M badge inside :P )
And some which I didn't:
///M Hat
Car Wash Kit & bucket
Extra bottle of oil in a zip-bag
2 Keychains
So, I still believe, you get what you pay for. Dunno if guys who got $2k off their price got any 'extras'. I guess if you factor in the cost of the extras it would probably come close. Either way, I was happy with the service at my dealership, and have been so far.

I have DVD based navigation on my car and DO NOT have a shark fin. It seems to work just fine, including my road trip a couple of months ago from Toronto (Ontario, Canada, NOT Toronto, OH) to Cleveland, OH. I have seen other '04s with a shark fin and am glad, frankly, that my car doesn't have one because it wrecks the clean lines over the top of the car. Could the sharkfin be for the BMW cellphone?
Ah. I haven't quite figured out what the sharkfin was for, and I do agree with you that it looks pretty obstrusive on the car. Seems that it must be the BMW cellphone.
