first off idont concider mercedes to be a german car since it isowned by daimler chrysler
i have both and e500 and a 545i smg Which i love but i would for sure 100000000% take the 5 series over the e500 when i drive the e500 at 80 the car is like a monster like a mustan gor something u cant take a turn at more than 80-90 MPH on the free way NO f!cking way but the 545 u can go at least 110 with no worries of the back end sliding out or whatever ok so in mY opinion a an mercedes can never beat a BMW without its supercharger or its twin turbo v12 bmw is just pure motor no turbo no superchager all MOTOR POWER from a smaller engine like my 545 has 325 hp from a 4.4L but the e500 has 300 out of a 5.0L and dotn even talk to me bout torque ok torques definition in adictionanry is BMW
Hahaha MB not German? It does not get more German than that..
Owned by Daimler Chrystler? German Mercedes BOUGHT Chrystler.. now does that make a MB non-german? I don't think so
The driving performance of the 545 and an E500 does not differ very much.. not enought to make an average driver feel the difference.
The MB has a slight advantage in comfort.. and the 545 a slight advantage in driving. That does NOT mean though that you can take a turn at 110 mph in the BMW and only 80-90 in the Merc.
The Merc often feel a bit more stable at high speeds and the cornering grip at high speed is not less in a Merc.
The reason to that the MB engines differ from BMW is that they prior efortless power delivery so that you don't need to rev the engine and push it to maximum all the time to get the power like you need to in some BMWs in comparison.
Adding a supercharger is not a cheat or anything ...it's only one of the ways availible..you still need the engine to be able to handle the power whatever way you choose. MB has choosen the right way in my opinion since they will be able to get much more power out of their engines than BMW. But BMW's way suits the more sporty character of their cars.
look buddy im not ur lil friend ok when i tell u that daimler bought mbz i noe what im talking about ok i asked the mbz dealer KEYES wher i bought my E500 from abotu two years ago and iside the driver dorr it says MFG by daimler chrysler adn on the windshield it has daimlers signature ok i dont noe where ur form ok but on the freeway that i drive on and my cross street which is called glenwood i have pushed the e500 to abotu 85 90 in a 35 mph zone and tried to take the turn and i almost ended up in the house infront of me but the beamer takes that same turn at 100+ and i end up in the street not 2 inches away from my nighbors front fence
the beamer seams like it has four magnets in the wheels that keep it glued to the road ok i drive up here in angeles crest all the time i can keep up with my brothers 360 spider
For some reason there was no possibility to post an answer in the other thread.
I'm astonished by some peoples no-knowledge about some things...
Daimler bought MBZ and that makes the Merc American?
Daimler-Benz was the former name of the company. Daimler-Benz was G-E-R-M-A-N. DAIMLER was german. Daimler-Benz changed their company name to Mercedes-Benz when they sold out some of their non profitable companies.
Then some years later.. MERCEDES-BENZ (the new name of GERMAN company Daimler-Benz) decided that they wanted to buy Chrystler. An agreement was established and the new company name became Daimler-Chrystler. See the order of the incorporated names? Daimler first..(and Daimler=German) The shares were split in the way that the German owners got the majority in all desicions made. The Chrystler division will in no way make any descisions over MB. The whole company is primarely ruled frĺn Germany. And MB rulement is COMPLETELY done in Germany.
Yes you could keep up with the 360. And yesterday.. I kept up with the new MB S65 on my bicycle.. that's true.
The difference between the 545i and E500 on a track is very little. At least when a driver that is able to drive does the test.
They use to give the 5-series the nod in the handling compartment.. and the E in comfy ride and high speed stability. But the differences are not very big.
When all European car mags come to the same results, it is not the car that is the problem if you can't drive it at about the same speed as the 545 :-)

when all is said and done i have both those cars and in my opinion the benz has no german car quailties it is a perfect car for straight line and looks like u dont belong in this site if u dont know what your talking about all i am saying is that if i wear to take my benz and my bmw and compare them side to side my self i think i would take the bmw i cant wait for the benzes lease to be over i mean when i sit in my bmw and drive that car and then come and drive the benz my back starts to hurt because first of all the seats look like th are upgraded from a 69 mustang they are so short in the back area and if mbz was a true sports car and had 7xx ft/lb of torque and 6xx of hp it should at least have the option to come with a manual tranny u cant drive that car for shit in the twisties with that kind of tranny u try to downshift that car on a turn with an automatic just step on the gas to come out of the turn u will end up fallin off the cliff up in angeles crest there is som much tire spin and no control what so ever and i noe this because ive tried this in a sl55 which belongs to my best friend and ive also tried it on a s55 which belongs to hsi wife
