I've been an American truck owner my whole life. Had a Ford Bronco and a Dodge Dakota pickup. Always been a truck guy. But last week an amazing deal was thrown in my lap to buy a 1997 M3 with a mere 47,000 miles on it. Driven only by an old guy who I've known for years. (So I know there's no BS involved with this deal.)
Pretty much prestine condition too. Body in great shape, no mechanical defects, runs like a dream.
So I'm entering the BMW world and I'm all kinds of excited about it!
I happened across this web page and thought I'd share my excitement.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled internet browsing.
I can't wait to take possession of the car. Thanks for some pretty thick red tape here in Maryland I've got at least a week before I can title it in my name. But should go through smoothly.
I'll bet this car is even better once you actually own it! haha
I just picked up the car and drove it for the first time on the highway....oh my god! What a car! I'm already in love with it. It's so awesome!
Couple of opperational questions though...
The rotors were rusted from non use for about 6 months. They are within specs but still break really rough. I know they'll wear in eventually but how long should that take? And is it going to wear down my pads while the rotors build a glaze back up?
Second, at 75 mph on the highway it's turning like 3200 RPM in 5th gear. Is that normal? That just seems high to me but I'm not used to cars, manual transmissions, or anything that's not a truck really.
Congratulations on the car. That sounds like the deal of the millenium!
The revs sound fine.... I suppose it's just a bit alien to have an engine revving to 6500 rpm!
You could try using a light abrasive (sand)paper to clean the rust from the disk surface. It'll give you a chance to see if the rust damage is only superficial.
Have fun with your new love affair!!! (We all like pics here if you get the chance)

This is probably the ebst shot I have of it so far. This one is pre-detailing. Hard to really tell how good it shines now in the pics anyway. But this is before I cleaned it up.
This one is another pre-wash shot showing off the front a bit more. You can see my rust bucket (and I mean that in the most affectionate way possible) truck in the background.
And here it is all polished up nice. (Of course it f'ing rained that night and well into the following day. But I guess I should have seen that comming a mile away)
Well I don't know abotu all that. That rust bucket in the background is still my primary driving car for city street and bad weather. (Why risk damage to my baby? hehe)

Last I remember, BMW doesn't make one of these pictured below, so it's ok to drive other vehicles that aren't cars, or are cars of special pedigree: After all, it's a way to stretch the value and use of your vehicle, not to mention saving risk driving in bad weather etc...
Yeah I mean once you have an older car that's paid off, it's cheap as hell to insure as a second car, so why not keep it? I mean you know there's gonna be a time when you're gonna want to drive like you don't care what happens to your car, might as well be prepared, right?
That's a nice ride... and I agree with you, it's nice to have an additional car besides your beamer, you'll enjoy the car a lot more. as for me I have two other cars, a 1988 Fiero GT (fun), and a '92 Camaro (work-horse). congrat on your cars, very nice!
