Question bouncing gas gauge

I have a 90 325 ix. The gas gauge bounces then pegs all the way down. If the reserve light didn't come on I wouldn"t know that i was low......I repalced the float but no change, acts like some sort of shorting issue but don't know...any help out there????

Check connections on the rear of the cluster, or you have low output from your battery the first sign is the gauges strt going mad.
