Many of you have read my couple of posts about my 04 M3 hitting the rev limiter at 7500 RPM in first gear. Then being fine to 7900 in the other gears. I know there are not alot of o4s out there so I have not been given a difinetive answer from anyone in the forum. Two dealers were not sure, an email to corporate customer service referred me back to my local service. This happened even though I had explained I had already done that. My second email request was met with you do not have a mechanical problem "NO DUH"so there is really nothing we can do for you. I finally ran down a number for the M Driver training school and I am in hopes they have an o4 they use. Certainly they can answer my question. Its been two weeks and to me it should not take BMW so long to get an answer to such a simple question. I can tell you if a car makes its max HP at 7900 RPM and is rev limited to 7500 that is just not logical. Am I being stupid here and getting carried away about something that is really not that important?

I understand your attitude about the car, its f***ing expensive and we want to make sure eveything is working the way it should, but Ill tell you your car is probably fine and you should probably just drop it and enjoy the car.

you know, this may have to do with how they programmed this smg thing.

i heard from my dealer (i bought 330ipp from them) that they can download euro software which is not part of the original intended on u.s. cars. the dealer sounded like there is no problem at all doing it and mentioned they did this for free if the customer complains...

perhaps this will make a difference.

thats just a good reason for you to buy yourself a dinan chip. if you do you wont have a governed top speed, youll have a higher rev limit, and you will gain a couple hp

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have been looking at different chip manfactures. Its seems that a lot of forum members feel good about dinan products. So I will most likley go that way. Do I understand correctly that a chip change does not affect warrenty?

a "dinan" chip will not because they are closely associated with bmw but im not sure if the other ones will or not. just go with dinan on your car

Thanks, thats good information, My birthday is in January. I think this will make an excellent gift I can give to myself.
