Actually my friend u are in luck. Road and track did a comparison between the M3 and a C32, there was a audi s4 also thrown into the mix. I read the article and the M3 beat the C32, but loss to the audi.... remember road and track does the whole car not just performance. When i was looking through the article the showed the 0-60 times and 1/4 mile, and slalom, trac times etc....The M3 scored perfect scores in all those categories and blew away both the audi and the c32. So performance wise the M3 will smoke the C32. This comparison is somewhat unfair being that the C32 is a 4 door. The C32 has more horsepower, but the M3 is lighter. So on the track the M3 will win hands down!! As R&T said the M3 is like andy roddick serving 140 mph serves, while the C32 is compared to the grace and touch of John Mcenroe.
The S4 is the slowest of the three. It does 0-60 in 5.4 secs, and the quarter mile in 13.9 @101.2mph. Its also the heaviest of the group. So if u are looking for straight up performance the S4 is not the way to go. But if u want a luxury liner with a 340 hp V-8 to take the kids to soccer practice in style the S4 is for u. If i had the money i would buy the M5 over the S4 if i wanted a 4 door.

u know the S4's traction could be better then the M3 because the S4 is AWD. i think the M3 is better in straight and the S4 is better at the coner.
For not being all wheel drive, the M3 is a beast in handeling... it is cheap to compare a rear wheel drive to an all wheel drive. I was in an 05' Subru WRX STI the other day (yes, I said 2005, cannot even buy it yet but this one kid had it) and we went crazy in it. I have never driven or been driven that crazy, it would definatly take the m3 in handeling. The kid also owns an 02' M3 coupe (his name is M3smurf on e46fanatics.com) and he says that the STI is faster. Sorry about off topic...
But you'll notice that the M3 is the real winner because it kills the other two in every category except exterior styling (totally disagree), interior styling (agree), seats (who f*cking cares), and luggage space... the only really noteworthy area it lost in was ride.
In fact, the rating system adds everything about the car itself up and at that point the M3 was up 13 points, but then there was a "price rating" where it somehow docked the M3 15 points for being $5,000 more than the S4 ($55k vs $50k) and ended up losing the overall by 2pts.
Whatever... someone's getting a bonus check in the mail from Audi!
